The US Department of Energy has recently developed its Commercial Lighting Solutions (CLS). The CLS has three major components:
To save 30% beyond ASHRAE/IES 90.1 2004 in 5.5 billion square feet of building space in three years,
The CLS has developed the first two of four business segment-based design tools: Retail box buildings, and office spaces. The remaining two: healthcare and classroom will follow. The CLS team has been working closely with New Buildings Institute (NBI), integrating CLS resources with NBI’s Advanced Lighting Guidelines (ALG) as background for the CLS tools. The CLS web-based tools are design templates along with equipment guidance, pricing, and cost-benefit estimates.
The CLS will bring its efforts to market by leveraging existing pathways and programs. This is where the Northeast regional initiative working group, the DLC, comes in to play.
